Taxpayers will remain in the dark about “covert communications equipment” used by the Concord Police Department after the New Hampshire Supreme Court ruled that the city could keep secret from the public what the equipment is, what it does and the name of the city’s vendor.

In an opinion released on Tuesday on the lawsuit brought by the American Civil Liberties Union of New Hampshire and the Monitor, a divided court upheld most of the city’s redactions to a license agreement with an unknown vendor that the Monitor and ACLU-NH received after filing Right-to-Know requests.

Toast posts optimistic outlook, aiming to be restaurants’ ‘technology backbone’

Shares of Toast Inc. gained nearly 7% in after-hours trading Thursday after the maker of payments technology for the restaurant industry topped revenue expectations for its latest quarter and issued an optimistic forecast.

The company logged a net loss of $23 million, or 20 cents a share, compared with a loss of $99 million, or 48 cents a share, in the year-earlier period. Analysts tracked by FactSet were expecting a loss of 13 cents a share.

The US Department of Energy (DOE) has funded a project called FORGE where hot granite rock will be drilled and fracked using the best oil and gas technology. An overall goal is to see if water pumped down one well can be circulated through the granite and heated before pumped up a second well to drive turbines that generate electricity.
